Cassandra in London

A couple of days shooting with Cassandra in London

We met at our first port of call — a dance studio in East London called Fieldwork Dance. It’s a very cool space: concrete floors, white walls, and a large window that lets in a beautiful flood of natural light. That’s where we started. We made full use of the light streaming through that big window and the raw texture of the concrete floor beneath us.

Cassandra was incredible as always — her movement was effortless, expressive, and inspiring. The dancing flowed beautifully, and we managed to capture some really strong shots. For this session, I brought along a few cameras: a Hasselblad XPan, a Leica SL2-S, and a Hasselblad 500CM. Both film cameras were loaded with Ilford HP5, and I’m genuinely thrilled with how the images turned out straight from the camera.

Once we wrapped up our time at the studio, we headed over to Bethnal Green. The light was still perfect, so we wandered around, chasing those last few pockets of sun. The first spot we stumbled upon was a small local football pitch — Cassandra immediately made the space her own, and again, we captured some great shots. That brought the first day to a close.

The next day, we made our way to the Barbican. I’ll admit, this area can feel a bit overdone at times, but I still love its atmosphere and architectural rhythm. The weather wasn’t ideal, so we spent most of the session indoors, exploring the interior spaces. There happened to be an exhibition on, so we wandered through and shot a few frames there too. A big shoutout to the Barbican staff — they were incredibly accommodating and didn’t bat an eyelid at what we were doing. Once again, I was really happy with the results we got in that location.

All in all, it was an amazing couple of days working with Cassandra. I couldn’t be happier with the images we produced. Huge thanks to Cassandra for her energy and creativity — I’ve linked her socials below, along with the Fieldwork Dance studio’s page.
